Hammers land striker
West Ham, Updated:
It is understood that West Ham will offer former striker Carlton Cole a short term contract, after he proved his fitness.
The Hammers were initially disappointed in his fitness levels and it has taken a while for them to be convinced that he was worth taking a gamble on but, with the continued absence of Andy Carroll, it has been decided to offer Cole a contract.
The latest reports now claim he is to be offered a short term deal until January after he finally persuaded Sam Allardyce he was fit enough for the top flight.
The 23-year-old is likely to go straight into the squad for the home clash with Manchester City on Saturday, but Cole may have to settle for a place on the bench.
Cole has been put through his paces on the training pitch having returned to Upton Park to try and earn a new deal, after initially leaving when his last contract ended back in June.
