No ill-effects for Hammers hitman

Andy Carroll has boosted West Ham by claiming he "felt good" after returning from a thigh injury in the 2-0 win against Huddersfield.

The 28-year-old striker missed the Hammers' opening three away defeats because of the problem but was a welcome addition for boss Slaven Bilic against the Terriers at the London Stadium on Monday night.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool man failed to get on the scoresheet but was his usual handful for the opposition's backline and he feels good ahead of this weekend's clash with West Brom.

"It's nice to be back and put on the kit. I felt good being back around the lads all week preparing for the game," Carroll told the club's official website.

Pedro Obiang's deflected strike and substitute Andre Ayew scored the goals inside the final 20 minutes and Carroll insisted the victory was the result of some hard work during the two-week break to put things right after their dismal start.

He added: "Even though we had the international break we’ve been knocking our heads together all week, wanting to do well. The lads are strong together, everyone’s been talking, basically telling each other to pull their finger out and that’s exactly what we did on Monday.

"Everyone in the team gave their all and got the win. Everyone’s together in that dressing room and everyone will be together until the end."
