Barnsley news

Barnsley, also known as the Tykes, have spent more seasons in the second tier of English football than any other club, while they last tasted top-flight action in 1997-98.

They struggled on a return to the Championship in 2006/07 (after promotion from League One) but the appointment of manager Simon Davey has seen an upturn in fortunes.

This culminated with a fantastic FA Cup run last year, which saw them beat both Liverpool and Chelsea en route to the semi-finals, before they were beaten by Cardiff at Wembley.

Key players to watch out for at Oakwell this season are skipper Brian Howard, Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Jon Macken, while Tommy Taylor, who scored 16 goals in 19 England internationals before losing his life in the Munich air disaster, is their biggest hero from the past.
